A Glimpse of MEC

The term 'Mara, and 'Mara Evangelical Church' means to signify the Church or Christians of that particular region, who profess the evangelical faith. The Motto of MEC is "Jesus Christ is the Lord" (Phi.2:11), founded by the missionary Rev. Reginald Arthur Lorrain in September 26, 1907. At the present thee are 18271 church members, 60 ordained pastors and 15 probationary pastors and 146 Assembly workers. The Church governance is divided into one Assembly, four presbytaries, 44 pastorates, 105 local Churches. The Church adopts the centralization pattern and accepts the Presbyteral nad Congregational form of Church Government. The works and concerns of the General Assembly are carreied out by its departments and Committees: Executive Committe, Finance & Property, Mission &Evanelism, Church Education &Literature, Personnel & Ministerial, Law & Procedure, Culture & Communication, Revival & Pastoral, Departments (Women, Youth, Children, Service and Development).
It courages lay leadership in preaching, teaching nad administration of finance. The MEC accepts the Holy Scripture of the OT and NT as containing all things necessary to salvation and as the supreme and decisive standard of faith, the Apostle's Creed as witnessing to and safequarding that faith, worships one God in trinity and Trinity in unity, believes in the sacraments of Baptism and Lord's Supper, is theologically contextual and ecumenical. 

The MEC is financially  self-supporting Church. Contributions from local Churches, Departments and the individuals are the main sources for the Church fund. The followings are the means and methods of raising funds.
1. Tithing: One tenths of Church members' income like rice, corn, money, domestic animals ... set aside for the Church fund. This is the main source of Church' fund. Other are: Envelop; Tent, Firewood; Handful of Rice; Handiworks; Faith Promise; Hunting; Fund Raising Campaign; Offering; First Fruit; New Crops Offering; Harvest Offering. 

The MEC is very active in Mission nd Evangelism since 1966 and at present she is working amongst the non-Mara speaking ethnic groups in Chin State and Rakhine State, Myanmar. They are: The Khumi field; The Daai Lemrochin field; The Myo @Khami field; The Mru field and the Ashochin field. There are 74 missionaries, 11 primary schools and one middle school in different mission fields, 5182 believers and 22 local churches in mission fields. 

MEC is one among active ecumenical Churches. Out of her tireless effort to be ecumenical partner, now she is a member of - 1985: Myanmar Council of Churches (MCC); 1989: Christian Conference of Asia(CCA); 1993: World Alliance of Reformed Churches(WARC); 2001: Associate Member of World Council of Churches (WCC).
