The Holy Spirit: Indwelling and Outpouring (Titus 3: 5-6)

The study about indwelling and outpouring of the Holy Spirit is a must to know every believer so that she or he may not confuse with each other. In OT time, there was only the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which was given for special purpose of God mission but no indwelling. The interest here is not to deal with the Holy Spirit in OT.
We find both the indwelling and outpouring of the Holy Spirit in NT. In verse 5, “renewal of the Holy Spirit” is about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. At the time of we accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savoir, He indwells in our hearts. That is we call “indwelling of Holy Spirit.” In verse 6, “This Spirit he poured out on us” on the other hand, is about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
In Act. 19:2, Paul asked some disciples in Ephesus whether they received the Holy Spirit when they became believers. But they said that they had not even heard there is a Holy Spirit. It could be, because there are believers who are born again in different kinds. People like in Act. 19:2 need outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
We can also learn, from the life of Peter, how outpouring of the Holy Spirit is important. In Mathew 26: 30-35, Jesus told to his disciples that they became the deserters because of me this night. But Peter said strongly that he never denied Jesus. But Jesus said, “before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” Again Peter said to Him, “Even though I will die with you, I will not deny you.” This conversation happened before the Pentecost. When Jesus was betrayed and handed over the Pharisees, Peter followed Jesus silently. But Peter denied Him thrice before the cock crows as Jesus has already axactly spoken (Mt. 26:69-75).
The reason why Peter denies Jesus here is that he had not yet got the outpouring of the Holy Spirit but only the indwelling. But after Pentecost, God poured out His Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. Another word for “outpouring of Holy Spirit” is “filling with the Holy Spirit. After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the life of Peter was seen different. Filling with the Holy Spirit made Peter be able to choose even to die upside down on the cross for the sake of Jesus Christ who once he denied thrice before rooster crows. After he experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Pentecost, he became the true follower of Jesus Christ.
Therefore the filling with the Holy Spirit is very important to do ministry successfully. We are not supposed to satisfy only the indwelling of the Holy Spirit but Outpouring of the Holy Spirit is a must to experience very believer.

Firstly, I praise God because who has been giving me to share the word of God. Which I already chose the scripture portion is very important in our Christian life. So let’s examine it together.
Let me explain first, “the meaning of filling with the Holy spirit.” This means controlling by the Holy Spirit. This does mean that every thing that we do including sins is done by the Holy Spirit. Therefore some people wrongly thought that whatever bad thing as much as I like I will do but if not God’s willing to do bad things, the Holy Spirit will control myself, I don’t need to control myself. It’s wrong doctrine. Because God has given us conscience, therefore God does not do by force in our life. Indeed every time God speaks to our hearts but we neglected that the voice of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is invisible and unhearable.
In order to understand more about be filling of te Holy Spirit, I would like to share some more points.
- How can one be filled with the Holy Spirit(Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:18-23. The way to be filled the Holy Spirit, is to let word of God dwell in you richly we have only one way to be filled with the Holy Spirit, which is “the Bible.” We have to read and to take decisions according to the word of God, to follow according to the Bible. So that the Spirit will help us to do this.
- How can we know we are filled with the Holy Spirit(Eph.5:18-23). The following points are important to check our spiritual life.
· The Spirit filled person sings hymns and spiritual songs making a melody in his heart to the Lord. According to Paul this means spiritual truth running through our mind and our mouth- spiritual communion with Lord as well as other believers.
· Spirit filled persons are subjected to one another. The y listen to one another and bow to one another’s authority. Spirit filled wives are subjected to their husbands as Christ loves the Church.
· Spirit filled children honor and obey their parents. And the spirit filled parents bring their children bring up into discipline and instruction of the Lord.
· The spirit filled employee obeys his employer, and the spirit filled employer understands his employees.
